WHAT DOES GOSPEL MEAN IN HEBREW?

"How pleasant on the mountains are the feet of him who brings the news, who announces peace and brings good, who announces salvation. He says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

מַה-נָּאווּ עַל-הֶהָרִים רַגְלֵי מְבַשֵּׂר, מַשְׁמִיעַ שָׁלוֹם מְבַשֵּׂר טוֹב--מַשְׁמִיעַ יְשׁוּעָה; אֹמֵר לְצִיּוֹן, מָלַךְ אֱלֹהָיִךְ

WHAT DOES "Gospel" MEAN IN HEBREW?

Various sections of the New Testament were written by Jews living in the Roman Empire sometime in the first century of the Common Era. One of the most important New Testament concepts is εὐαγγέλιον (pronounced: euangelion), which in English is usually translated as “the Gospel”. While the word Gospel has positive connotation in the minds of modern Jesus Christ-followers. It still obscures its original Hebraic meaning.

THE REIGN OF ISRAEL’S GOD

In Koine Judeo-Greek the word euangelion is a compound word that is made up of two separate words “good” and “message”. To proclaim the Gospel literally means to announce to someone that something (really) good has taken place.
In ancient times when the armies of Israel would face those who sought to conquer their country, the messengers would stand ready to bring the news of either defeat or victory over their enemies. When Israel’s army would emerge victorious it was clear that Israel’s God demonstrated his power and defeated the armies under the protection of others gods.

UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE.
GROW SPIRITUALLY

When the New Testament proclaims the Gospel, we must understand it to be nothing less than a proclamation of the reign of Israel’s God. Understanding the significance of this can take place only by learning the Bible's original language.
