Leadership in Biblical Times Vs. Modern Times
Elections in the US are right around the corner, and it makes us wonder: what is the connection between leadership in Biblical times and modern times? We invite you to embark on a journey with us to learn about the link between leaders of the different periods and the significance of understanding what the leaders meant in their own spoken words in Hebrew. Think about Moses or Trump as a public speaker and Deborah or Hillary as a female leader. Do you think there’s a link between the leaders?
Leadership According to Biblical Wisdom
The answer to that question is yes, and in more ways than one. In fact, we can find a strong connection between the way modern day leaders choose to present themselves to the public and the perception of the “right” kind of leaders in the Holy Scriptures. In Biblical times, the idea of leadership had everything to do with the leader’s own character, ability to know God’s and the people’s will and the determination to carry it out. These types of traits were considered to be of great importance to one’s ability to lead and can actually even predict his or her future success as a true leader of a people.
Discover the Biblical Origin of Modern Day Leadership
Today, modern readers of the Bible understand that many of the traits believed to be imperative for a leader come from the Bible, and moreover, reading the Bible in its original language can help retrieve the authentic and powerful meaning lost in translation. Take the very word “Leadership” - מַנְהִיגוּת (Pronounced – manhigut) for example. The root of this word is נ-ה-ג. It is connected with other words like “to drive a car” - לִנְהֹג (pronounced – linhog) and a wheel – הֶגֶה (Hege). This shows that in modern times, much like in Biblical times, the idea of leadership is the idea of guiding something or someone.
