The clarifying light of Biblical Hebrew
The Temple in Jerusalem was world famous for its astounding architecture and the beauty of the utensils used by the priests. One of the most recognizable of these utensils was the the seven-branch lampstand. The original Hebrew word for this lamp in Exodus 25 is menorah (מנורה). Although the Temple is no longer in existence today, the same word – menorah – is used to refer to the nine-branch candelabrum which is still lit on the festival of Hanukkah.
